In February 2023, Ontario announced the establishment of a Hydrogen Innovation Fund. This fund is earmarked to invest $15 million over the next three years, aiming to initiate and advance opportunities for integrating hydrogen into Ontario’s clean electricity system, which includes hydrogen storage. The initial six recipients of the Hydrogen Innovation Fund, overseen by the Independent Electricity System Operator, have been revealed. Among them is Emerald Energy from Waste, which secured $2,990,000 to develop a new facility dedicated to producing hydrogen from waste. The objective is to assess its viability in providing electricity grid services and supplying hydrogen to heavy-duty vehicles.
